Disney Genie Service at Walt Disney World

Disney Genie Service

Let’s take a look at the Disney Genie Service, which includes Genie, Genie+, and Individual Attraction Selections.

Genie (complementary a/k/a free version)

This will probably be useful for those who have not been to Disney, haven’t been in a long time, or are pretty new to the theme parks.

Keep in mind Genie is a Disney feature. There will likely be some guest manipulation to Disney’s benefit, and not the guests.

If a restaurant is doing low-volume, guess where they’re going to suggest you dine? I predict the same with rides. Visitors will be directed to the Hall of Presidents during peak hours, not told when the best strategy is to go on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. This is just my guess, but it’s probably pretty accurate.

Genie (free) will not and should not replace the planning you should be doing before your trip, including grasping how the My Disney Experience app works.

Genie+ (paid version)

At this time it is $15 per person, per day (plus tax).

A lot in the Walt Disney World sphere are upset about FastPass+ being retired. Honestly, it’s not that much different, it’s just something new to learn and get used to. It’s essentially taking out the “three FastPass reservations in advance of your trip” and making it one a time, day of, on your trip. This really is not a big deal and was similar to my personal strategy with FastPass+. I’d make our three FastPass+ reservations in advance. However, as soon as we scanned in our first FastPass+, I was looking to see what was around me that was open and switching my other initial three FastPass+’s around.

Lightning Lanes

This is the queue you will enter with your Genie+ Pass (the old FastPass+ lanes).

Individual Lighting Lane

These are basically “pay to ride” OR standby queue-only rides. These won’t be included in Genie+ and you won’t be able to use Genie+ to get into the Lighting Lane for these rides.

Here are the rides you can purchase an Individual Lightning Lane Pass for. Keep in mind, you don’t have to purchase anything to ride these rides, you can always just use the traditional stand-by queue.

Magic Kingdom

  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
  • Space Mountain

Epcot

  • Frozen Ever After
  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

Hollywood Studios

  • Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
  • Rise of the Resistance

Animal Kingdom

  • Expedition Everest
  • Flight of Passage

Miscellaneous Thoughts

You are essentially going to have three options. The traditional standby line (free), Genie+ ($15.00 per person, per day) and Individual Lighting Lane Selections (a single paid ride). You can do all of these or any combo of them.

You can bundle these with your vacation package.

I think Genie+ will be worth it for most people who don’t want to wait in any lines over 15 minutes during their vacation. Like my husband! HA!

The Individual Lighting Lane Selections will likely not be worth the cost for most repeat visitors, or early risers who stay on property and have Early Entry. However, if it’s a once-in-a-lifetime trip, it might be worth it to you.
