Hurricane Irma has devastated the Caribbean.
One of my favorite singers, Kenny Chesney, and I share a love of the Virgin Islands. He attributes who he is today and his music to this part of the world. He kept these islands to himself for a quite a while and they have grown in popularity with those of us in the States seeking a peaceful Caribbean refuge.
We were just there this past June. To see some of the photos of how Hurricane Irma has ripped apart these islands is just devastating.
Reading the following Instagram written by Kenny (because those in the No Shoes Nation call him by his first name) you can just hear and feel the hurt and helplessness he is feeling at that moment. But he is right, the No Shoes Nation he has built is mighty. I’m excited to see what Kenny comes up with to help towards the rebuilding efforts of this area. I have no doubt it will be great and all of his tribe, No Shoes Nation, will band together.
I also listened to an interview with Kenny Chesney on the devastation that has occurred. This was heart-wrenching and inspiring all in one.
Unfortunately, at this time, Hurricane Irma is not done. She’s headed for Florida right now and we will likely see devastation as well there. To make matters worse, Hurricane Jose is chasing her down what so far appears to be a very similar path. My heart is just aching for these people. How do you even begin to prepare for a second hurricane just days after the first?
People are resilient and they will rebuild. It will take some time, but I have no doubt they will be back and stronger than ever.
