One of America’s greatest treasures and it’s first national park is Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone is located mainly in Wyoming, with parts of the park in Montana and Idaho.
Take Your Time
Take your time while at Yellowstone. There are five entrances and several regions within the park. To get the most out of your time, plan what you’d like to do each day. Take into account the areas with food will be crowded at peak lunch times.
Dress in layers or bring jackets and pants. It will typically be cool in the evenings. When we were there it was snowing in the Tower-Roosevelt area in July!
Staying in the Park
We highly recommend staying in the park during your stay. We booked our stay almost a year in advance, so planning is essential to ensure you have lodging reservations. You can book your stay through Yellowstone National Park Lodges.
Now for the fun stuff! From geyser’s to mountains to plains, Yellowstone has a bit of everything. Below are a few of our favorites.
- Old Faithful – Probably the most famous of the geysers
- Grand Canyon of Yellowstone
- Hayden Valley – We were fortunate enough to see a mama bear and her 3 cubs here.
- Lamar Valley
- Artists Paintpots
Be prepared to walk and just take in your surroundings. Always be sure to respect and give wildlife (and nature) it’s space.
There are many hiking trails to enjoy as well as the obvious “pull off the road” stops you will see along your drive. If you have limited time, choose what areas you’d like to focus on and soak those all up. Most importantly don’t rush. Time truly seems to stand still here. Enjoy it!
